Literary journalists must've been giving thanks for Octavia E. Butler this year, because we returned from our holiday break to find two huge pieces on the celebrated sci-fi/fantasy author.

The New York Times launched an interactive story on how Butler found the inspiration for her prescient novels.

But if animation and images aren't really your thing, Vulture has a profile of Butler presented in a more traditional fashion.

Butler is best known (and critically acclaimed) for wrote the Patternist and Earthseed series, the novel Kindred, and the award-winning short-story collection Bloodchild and Other Stories.
