A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens's classic Yuletide tale, was published on this day in 1843.

Like all authors, he was hoping it would see success — and, sadly, like many authors, he also needed it to be a hit.

Literary Hub recounts how Dickens pushed the story out in six weeks because of the financial pressure he was under.
