The theme on the reader blog today: almost one hundred.

First we had the overdue library book; now we have the obituary of avant-garde filmmaker and author Kenneth Anger, who died May 11 at age ninety-six.

While he was best known for his work in the movies, Anger also wrote an influential (though perhaps inaccurate) book called Hollywood Babylon.

The Associated Press described the book, originally published in French and banned for years in the US, as "an extraordinary and often apocryphal family album."

Anger wrote a sequel, Hollywood Babylon II, in 1984 and had said in recent years that he was working on one more book.

Read more about Anger's career in the AP's obituary.
