The typewriter turned 150 this year, and the city where it was born threw a party to celebrate.

Milwaukee hosted the inaugural QWERTYFEST MKE from June 23-25, and it included such events as a musical performance done on a typewriter and the sale of a typewriter autographed by fanboy Tom Hanks.

And while you can only read about QWERTYFEST MKE for now on Atlas Obscura, there is one thing to look forward to: Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson declared June 24 — the day after National Typewriter Day — to be QWERTY MKE Day.

So more festivities are sure to come.
