It's no secret that librarians (and teachers) have a tougher-than-usual job nowadays, with all the efforts to restrict which books are available.
Plenty of people, of all level of prominence, are fighting back with actions and with words.
Among them is former President Barack Obama, who wrote an open letter on Medium about the issue.
Specifically, he described all the ways in which literature and librarians helped him grow and thanked librarians for their work in protecting our freedom to read.
And he concludes by inviting all of us to remind others, when needed, that "the free, robust exchange of ideas has always been at the heart of American democracy."
Obama also appeared in an Illinois library's TikTok video to help boost this message.
