No one reading this blog needs any sort of survey or study to tell them that reading is an incredible form of escape.

But sometimes it's fun to measure its power — so ThriftBooks asked OnePoll to do a survey of 2,000 US adults who say they read regularly, to learn more about it.

For example, the responses revealed that on average, it takes thirty-six minutes (about twenty-nine pages) to become lost in a book.

And the most powerful genres, in that regard, are fantasy (49 percent), romance (42 percent), history (39 percent), and science fiction (36 percent).

Head to the ThriftBooks blog to see more of the results, such as which time periods came up most often as captivating.
