Another day, another literary award and year-end book list ...

Congratulations are in order for author John Vaillant, who won the 2023 Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction (and £50,000 / about $62,200) for his book Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World.

Fire Weather was also a National Book Award finalist; Baillie Gifford judges described it as both "exceptional" and "terrifying," reports the Guardian.

It's also a slightly humorous selection, because this year, more than 150 authors and book industry professionals signed a statement asking that Baillie Gifford stop investing in fossil fuel companies.

(PS: Earlier this year, the CBC shared an excerpt of Fire Weather in covering its nomination for yet another nonfiction prize.)

The other cause for celebration comes from RBmedia, which compiled a list of the bestselling audiobooks of 2023.
