It was all the rage when I was in high school to either be an emo kid or to make fun of emo kids.

So with that in the back of the mind, pairing these two fairly unrelated bookish posts seemed actually fairly natural.

The Passive Voice reshared a 2021 essay from the BBC declaring The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald to be the world's most misunderstood novel.

(Misunderstood, just like we teens who were assigned it back in high school. Dramatic sigh.)

And speaking of dramatic ... Electric Literature has put a melancholy spin on the high-profile college basketball tournaments taking place right now.

It invites readers to participate in "March Sadness" and vote for the most devastating novel of all time.
