A long-forgotten story by Frances Hodgson Burnett will see new light in an upcoming anthology.
Burnett, best known for the ultimately uplifting The Secret Garden, took a decidedly darker approach with “The Christmas in the Fog.”
The story describes two eerie experiences: a trip on a liner surrounded by fog and an encounter with a spooky, “shabby little boy.”
The Guardian reports that it was initially published in 1915 and recently re-emerged in the British Library’s papers.
“The Christmas in the Fog” will appear in Queens of the Abyss, a collection of other forgotten works by women in the early twentieth century.
The book comes out in paperback in September.
