As we go through year-end best-of lists and follow awards throughout the year, we see a lot of the same book titles pop up.
And that’s probably for good reason — while taste is subjective, critics' preferences often align with each other.
Unfortunately, that crowds out plenty of other books that haven’t received their fair share of publicity.
NPR’s Karen Grigsby Bates sought to rectify that by asking various indie bookstore owners about the books they felt were underappreciated this year.
