We’ll admit it — food is always on our minds, and we suspect one of the reasons we fell in love with the Little House series is all the food Laura Ingalls Wilder described.

But it turns out that our Facebook fans feel the same way, or at least have a few literary dishes that stick out in their brains, too.

Here are the foods they wish would leap from the page to their plates!

Great minds think alike

Mary V.: I made several things from the Diana Mott Davidson books about Goldie the caterer. They sounded wonderful but mine just didn't measure up. Could be because I'm from Southwestern Louisiana and it has to be quite good to be as good as the things that I cook from home! I make a number of dishes that show up in James Lee Burke's series about Dave Robicheaux. Don't know if mine are as good as described but pretty darn good!

Chris N.: I also made Diana Mott Davidson’s Cereal Killer Cookies. Can’t make enough of them. My neighbors look forward to Christmas cookie bags each year.

The buffet line

Carol N.: Lula's bucket of chicken from Cluck-in-a-Bucket from Janet Evanovich’s books.

Claudia R.: I would looove to taste any of the recipes from Como Agua Para Chocolate (Like Water For Chocolate) and feel how the people on the book did ❤️

Lee C.: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. I’ve never made these, but I have eaten some yummy ones at Landry’s.

Sandy F.: I'd love to try Gach. A Klingon dish.

And the winner …

Jane L.: Honestly? Anything I don't have to cook or clean up after.
