Happy release day to two politicians — one past, one present.
Mazie Hirono, one of Hawaii’s two US senators, has published a memoir called Heart of Fire: An Immigrant Daughter's Story.
In an interview with NPR ahead of its release, Hirono previews some of the key moments in her life journey, from her mother’s decision to leave an abusive relationship in Japan to her own decision to cast aside her stoic image in favor of more outspokenness in the Senate.

On the other side of the aisle (and from retirement), we have former President George W. Bush’s new book, Out of Many, One: Portraits of America's Immigrants.
The portraits come in multiple forms: artwork done by Bush and text describing the immigrants’ stories.
