You can probably empathize with historical fiction author Emma Lombard.

She decided to self-publish because of the options it offers — but the sheer number of choices can certainly feel overwhelming.

So once she’d developed a plan, implemented it, and assessed it, she wanted to share that road map with fellow authors (whom she reminds that their mileage may vary, of course).

With her key goals being to gain early reviews and grow newsletter subscribers, she recommended, among other strategies, publishing wide and using a BookFunnel freebie (listed in, ahem, The Fussy Librarian).

Lombard’s full marketing and promotion plan is up on Jane Friedman’s blog.
