The Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize made its, well, debut last month.

And among the books in the running is The Rabbit Hutch, by Tess Gunty.

The title refers to an apartment building in a dying Rust Belt town, in which one unit houses four teenagers who have aged out of foster care.

We spend just a week with them as they yearn for a better escape than what the system has dealt them.

You can read an excerpt of The Rabbit Hutch through Literary Hub.
