If you're not among author Colleen Hoover's many fans, we still have something for you to celebrate — one omnibus post about her, versus several individual ones for you to glance past.

However, it can't go unremarked that she broke a fiction record for Simon & Schuster.

Publishers Weekly reports that It Starts with Us sold 800,000 copies through October 18, the day the book officially went on sale — so that includes both presales and release-day purchases.

NPR, in a new profile of Hoover and her fandom, notes that the presale figures alone (which weren't broken down) were the most in Simon & Schuster history.

So what's making Hoover, whose Twitter bio acknowledges the insanity of her popularity ("I don't get it either"), such a smash hit?

The Guardian and TIME magazine both take a stab at articulating the secret to her success.
