It's no secret that the traditional story of English literature is dominated by male writers.

And it's also no secret that there were female writers who managed to create and share literature in spite of women's relative lack of power and wealth.

The goal of Anna Beer's fall release, Eve Bites Back: An Alternative History of English Literature, is to elevate the great lengths that these women went to in order to share their work.

One of those women is today's literary birthday girl, Jane Austen, and Literary Hub has an excerpt from Eve Bites Back about Austen's period of self-doubt and struggle, courtesy of the author and the publisher.
