Depending on which version of the saying you prefer, history either repeats itself or at least rhymes.
I'm a big fan of the latter version, but they both tie these two literary posts together, as they're both about efforts to control populations via limiting what they can read.
Historic: Screenwriter and director Ava DuVernay received express permission from German authorities to re-create Nazi-era book burnings where they actually happened in the 1930s.
Why? For a scene in her film Origin, which was inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s book Caste; Origin opens in limited release tomorrow and widely on January 19.
Contemporary: The Fight Book Bans Act was introduced into Congress yesterday by Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Florida).
Book Riot notes that it doesn't seek to end book bans directly; rather, it aims to offset the cost that school districts face when books are challenged.
The bill would appropriate $15 million over the next five years, with each district eligible for up to $100,000.
