Margaret Atwood and André Aciman have both announced sequels to their well-loved books this month.

Many fans — but not all — are doing cartwheels over the news.

In the Guardian, for instance, Laura Waddell writes that she has mixed feelings: While the timing seems right to extend The Handmaid’s Tale, she says, she’d prefer to keep some of Call Me by Your Name’s questions unanswered because of how well the mystery serves the book's tone.

What about you, readers? We’ll be honest and confess that we admired how artfully Atwood left us hanging, so it will be with a twinge of sadness that we open The Testaments ...

... but open it we shall. Even if it means going through the same sorrow that came from watching seasons 4 and 5 of Arrested Development undo all the magic of seasons 1-3.
