The Bookseller shared the results of a new survey done in Britain that we hope isn’t reflective of other countries’ readers.

Among the depressing findings: 38% of women and 32% of men reported having their book choices criticized for being “too commercial or trashy.”

Scarier yet, 20% of people surveyed said they’d never used a library — boy, we sure hope that means they’ve been fortunate enough to always buy books or borrow from friends!

Other questions in the survey focused more on perceptions of the publishing industry and how it and book festivals select their authors; you can read those findings in the Bookseller, if you’re curious.

But we’re more curious: No matter where you live, have you experienced unwelcome commentary on the books you’re reading?
