Two upcoming book adaptations boast some big-name actresses from very different eras.

Sophia Loren, 86, stars in the latest adaptation of the Prix Goncourt-winning novel The Life Before Us (La vie devant soi).

Loren’s movie is titled The Life Ahead and begins streaming on Netflix on November 13; it was previously adapted in 1977 and called Madame Rosa.

You can read Variety’s review of the 2020 movie, but perhaps more interesting to bookworms is Lit Hub’s accounting of the career of the novel’s author, Romain Gary … who originally published the book as Émile Ajar.

Our other adaptation comes from more modern times, in multiple ways: Mindy Kaling will star in the screen version of Jennifer Weiner’s Good in Bed.

Weiner’s semiautobiographical novel will become a movie for HBO Max, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Lit Hub also has a few more quick hits of books making their way into film, for those interested.
