Frustrated by the abnormally challenging weather where you live? Just gloomy on a Monday morning?

Either way, two recent book releases might fit your current mood (though not necessarily cheer you up).

Elizabeth Kolbert’s Under A White Sky: The Nature of the Future came out last week, while Bill Gates’s How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need comes out tomorrow.

Both works of nonfiction, as you guessed, call attention to climate change, its threat to humanity, and what can be done (and is currently being done) to mitigate it.

Check out what the critics thought of both Under A White Sky and How To Avoid A Climate Disaster on Bookmarks, the review aggregator site, if you’re so inclined; we’ll note that as of this writing, the New York Times’s thoughts on the latter hadn’t made it in, so here’s a separate link to it.

Gates is, of course, the co-founder of Microsoft; Kolbert is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author with extensive experience writing about climate change.
