TIME magazine released its list of the year’s most influential people yesterday.
Literary Hub’s Emily Temple bemoaned the fact that there was really only one novelist (or one writer described as such), specifically Tomi Adeyemi, who wrote the bestselling YA novel Children of Blood and Bone.
The list, however, also included:
Julie K. Brown, an investigative reporter whose work on the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein gave more voice to his victims.
Angela Y. Davis, a political activist and professor who has also written several books including Freedom Is a Constant Struggle, Women, Race, and Class, and Are Prisons Obsolete?.
Ibram X. Kendi, bestselling author of works including How to Be an Antiracist and Stamped from the Beginning, honored for his contributions to the current social justice movements.
MacKenzie Scott, honored for her commitment to philanthropy, who’s an award-winning novelist as well but who’s perhaps best known as the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
