Author and entrepreneur Joanna Penn has shared an excerpt from her book How to Write Non-Fiction on her blog.

The post focuses on reasons that one might want to try their hand at writing nonfiction, as opposed to fiction, including:

  • You have been through a particular experience, and you want to help other people going through the same thing.

  • You want to build authority, credibility and expert status in a particular field.

No matter your motivation, Penn says, you should scratch the itch if it strikes — “after all, the book you write could change your life” as it did for her.
