Being funny is a gift. That said, even if you weren’t born with a natural knack for it, you can build on the ability you do have.

Writing professor Susan Shapiro came up with advice for making your work more humorous. Need qualifications from her?

Well, though her husband didn’t contribute to her list, he is a comedy writer who worked on such shows as Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, and In Living Color.

So she probably can quantify humor a bit better than the average person.
