Author Rachel Van Dyken was tired of — make that frustrated and exhausted by — doing the same ol’ thing for book releases.

So she vented to a friend and fellow author, who in turn suggested that Van Dyken check out the marketing book Blue Ocean Strategy.

Her takeaway? Well, she wrote a blog post about it for IndieReader titled “The Marketing Concept that Changed My Life,” in which she says the way of thinking it touts can be applied to all areas of your life.

That theory recommends that instead of trying to do the same thing as everyone else in the “shark-infested bloodied waters of the red ocean,” you move over to the blue ocean, where it’s less crowded, and find your consumers there.

Van Dyken has five tips on how to settle into that mindset and find your ocean here.
