One member of Jane Friedman’s writing group asks so consistently about the settings in others’ works that it prompted a revelation.
Friedman has begun, in her own writing, to “take the setting more seriously as a character in and of itself.”
And she’s not the only author to remark upon the importance of place in fiction.
