Benjamin Dreyer has spent nearly three decades in the copy-editing field, so unsurprisingly he has more than a few strong opinions on grammar, punctuation, and word usage.

If you don’t have time to read his new book, Dreyer’s English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style, he dispenses a few pieces of advices and pet peeves in a New York Times profile, as well as three rules to disregard in The Paris Review.

Dreyer’s qualifications, beyond longevity? He’s vice president, executive managing editor, and copy chief for Random House — and also a beloved style guide on Twitter.
