John B. Jamison isn’t being coy when he says that he doesn’t create his characters — he becomes acquainted with them.
That's truly how he perceives his writing process; the characters simply arrive in front of him, and he shares them with the world.
But Jamison was able to articulate three of the “unthinking” actions he takes to help him understand his characters better, which in turn improves how he writes them.
