We know our authors are smart, motivated, and hard-working.

But who among us couldn’t use a good pep talk/kick in the pants on occasion?

Today that comes from Kristine Kathryn Rusch, mostly inspired by the responses to her licensing series, but also from years of listening to writers.

Authors are currently telling her that they’ll worry about licensing later because they’re not big enough yet.

To her, this is yet another example of how writers will quit even before they hit resistance, how they let their imaginations work against them in conjuring up the ways in which they’ll fail.

Rusch wants to flip that on its head. Use that creative energy to picture how you’ll succeed — and then work toward it, she says.

Here’s her tough-love talk in its entirety. (And here's the previous installment of her licensing series, which includes links back to other posts.)
