Great news today for authors: they can officially register fifty short textual works published online for a flat, single fee of $65 through the U.S. Copyright Office.

The key things to know: “short” means between fifty and 17,500 words; the works must have been published in the same ninety-day period and written by the same author or collaboration; and the rule takes effect August 17.

Read more about this effort, the product of three years of work by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, National Writers Union, Horror Writers Association, and American Society of Journalists and Authors, on the SFWA website.
