The only universal rule in writing time-travel fiction seems to be that you, as the author, make the rules that fit your work.
It’s helpful to have this framework in place, or at least partly developed, as you begin to work on the story line, though.

She shares those and examples of how well-loved time-travel stories like Kindred, The Time Machine, Outlander, and others answer those questions in a post at Writer’s Digest.
