We’re over a year out from the moments when we realized that the COVID-19 epidemic was going to dramatically change our worlds — and some of us are reaching another turning point, with vaccine availability expanding.

And John J. Kelley found himself thinking about how the coverage of this turning point underscored an important truth in writing fiction, too: that your character’s moment of profound change must feel, well, profound.
