Julianna Baggott shared a post about rejecting a specific type of rejection from acquiring editors that appeared to resonate strongly with other authors.
We know many Fussy authors choose to self-publish, so this may at first not seem very applicable to them.
However, we thought Baggott made some insightful observations about a negative reaction to "unlikable" or "unrelatable" characters.
Specifically: Is the character truly the problem, or is the reader’s expectation the real issue?
Ask yourself this question before immediately rewriting the character, she says — “Make the work stronger, always. But do not smile for them.”
