Roger Bannister wasn’t a professional athlete by any means — he was a medical student who trained in his spare time.

And that, says Ron Hogan, illustrates a powerful truth for writers, especially those with day jobs.

That is: prioritizing the time you spend writing counts far, far more than the volume of hours you can (or feel you should) devote to it.
