Authors frequently talk about how characters make plot decisions for them, sometimes to their great surprise.
So it’s not a stretch to see writing coach C.S. Lakin suggest that authors ask their characters questions about the setting they’re in.
These questions can be posed about a particular scene’s setting or the novel’s overall setting.
Of course, the answer to each won’t necessarily make its way into your writing, but they should provide you some guidance on how to bring the entire story to life.
Lakin’s twelve questions to ask your character about setting are up on her Live Write Thrive blog.
