Carla Hoch recently encountered a study that upturned her theories on the creative process.
She’d previously thought formulas would inhibit creativity, but Japanese researchers have found that copying can actually increase it.
There are a number of theories why this works, which you can certainly find in Hoch’s post at Writer’s Digest, but the reason she brings it up is that it inspired her to provide authors a four-step formula for writing fights.
