Nate Hoffelder agrees with the marketing wisdom that having your own web domain and a branded email through it is a strong move.

He has one huge caveat to attach to it, however: that you should not use that address to set up an account on another site.

That’s because if you let the domain registration expire, anyone who picks up that domain could start receiving emails sent to your branded email address — and those emails could contain sensitive information.
