Stephanie Marie Thornton, author of a spy thriller, has never worked in an intelligence agency.

But firsthand knowledge isn’t required of someone writing an espionage novel.

What is required, though? In Thornton’s opinion, the author must know how to develop a believable character, in addition to tension and plot twists.
