But how do you get your book to that point, where the entertainment industry wants to adapt it?

Certain books tend to appeal more both to buyers and viewers, and that's the subject of recent posts by both Jane Friedman and The Bookseller.

Friedman shared observations from panelists at last year's virtual Bologna Book Fair in which they listed the criteria they considered for book-to-screen adaptations.

The Bookseller, at least in the excerpt that The Passive Voice shared, spoke to the genres that seem to translate best from page to screen.
