Don't panic if you've been asked to write a foreword

We imagine being asked to write the foreword to someone's novel being rather like being asked to serve as a job reference.

That is, it would be flattering ... and then perhaps a bit overwhelming, because it's a great responsibility to introduce someone to a new audience for judgement.
