Yes, it's important for authors to obtain feedback on their drafts and revise accordingly, but at some point, one has to simply publish.

But what if several years pass and your craft improves along with it?

Joanna Penn found herself in that situation, in a way.

She realized that once readers got to the fourth book in this particular series, they were, statistically, hooked.

So how do you get them to book four? Make sure books one through three are as incredible as they can be.

Penn has done two podcasts focusing on her rewrite of Stone of Fire, the first book in her ARKANE series, with slightly different angles.

On her Creative Penn blog and podcast, Penn shares the technical side of rewriting, but more importantly, she highlights the craft issues that she addressed in the revision.

And on the Alliance of Independent Authors blog and podcast, she and Orna Ross talk more about the true focus of rewriting and how you know you're ready to do it.
