For the most part, Dave King's February post on cutting your way to freedom resonated with the Writer Unboxed community.
One commenter, though, respectfully disagreed with the passage from a recent novel that the longtime editor suggested condensing.
That feedback inspired another post at Writer Unboxed, this time attempting to define what purple prose is, in contrast to vivid description.
Ultimately, he concedes, some readers will have arrived at an author because of their way of writing description.
And if that's the case for your fan base, feel free to disregard him — but if not, or if you're not sure, he encourages you to examine whether your descriptive passages serve the story or your own self.
