A commenter on Donald Maass's new post for Writer Unboxed wrote a better introduction to it than we could, to be perfectly honest.

His post is about how to write your characters' inner moments, when there isn't much (if any) exterior action.

Fellow writer Amy Keely pointed out: "Getting inside someone’s skin is the ultimate goal, but it’s nice to have specific tools for those moments."

Head over to Writer Unboxed for those tools and examples of what Maass means by inner moments.
