As copy writer Alexander Lewis acknowledges, very few people (if anyone) need to be told that the Internet can be distracting.

But when he urges authors to step away from the computer to benefit their writing, he means that in multiple ways.

Drafting by hand, reading authors you admire, experiencing the world beyond writing — these are just some of the actions that Lewis recommends in his guest post for Jane Friedman.
