It's easy to focus on the big ways in which your ancestors have interacted with history — like, say, having a grandfather who enlisted in World War II after hearing about the attack on Pearl Harbor.

But, says bestselling and award-winning writer Yvette Manessis Corporon, you don't have to (and, in fact, shouldn't) limit yourself to sweeping history when looking to your family for inspiration.
