Becca Puglisi, co-author of the The Conflict Thesaurus, expects that most writers have heard the advice to have conflict in every scene.

Most of it will be the story's central conflict, but some of it will relate to subplots.

Those are valuable, says Puglisi, but shouldn't overshadow or drown out the central conflict.

Her recommendations for keeping your story's central conflict on top are up in a guest post at Anne R. Allen's blog.
