How to welcome a new main character into your mind

Some authors are fortunate enough to have characters truly move into their heads.

It's a mixed blessing, though, because at a certain point, they might want to welcome a new protagonist.

Author Tracy Clark has definitely been in that position, with a dominant character still rattling around in her head even as she tried to launch a new series.

From that experience, Clark has identified five reliable steps for developing a new series character (or any other character, really) and shared them at Writer's Digest.
