The publishing experts we follow have plenty of craft and business advice to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Deciding who lives and dies in fiction: Author Matt Cost knows that killing off characters is an unpopular move, but he explains that it's often necessary and sometimes beyond the novelist's control (Writer's Digest).

  • Nonfiction topics to write about: Like with his previous writing-prompt posts, Dave Chesson shares some guidelines for writing nonfiction, then offers starting points for the genre divided into a couple of different niches (The Kindlepreneur).

  • How to communicate with your book cover designer: Vasylysa Zaturets, who works for a book cover design company, provides authors a five-step template for effectively working with a book cover designer (Anne R. Allen's Blog... with Ruth Harris).

  • WP Payhip integration: Nate Hoffelder of The Digital Reader alerted us to the fact that that WordPress now offers a plug-in to integrate Payhip, for easier direct sales.

  • Self-publishing authors earn more: The Alliance of Independent Authors reveals the results of its income survey (ALLi).
