When writers are their own worst enemies

Okay, the headline is a little dramatic, but you get the gist — sometimes writers get in their own way and hold themselves back.

In the experience of editor and coach Lisa Cooper Ellison, authors sometimes think they're hard at work pursuing their goals.

But in reality, their behaviors are counterproductive.

Ellison describes three such ways that authors block their success (and shares tips to resolve this) in a post for Jane Friedman's blog.

And while she focuses on the unhelpful behaviors, writer Greer Macallister has a few thoughts about, well, thoughts at Writer Unboxed.

Specifically, Macallister takes issue with some of the metaphors commonly used to describe a writing career and how they actually limit an author's ability to see a path forward.
