One thing about writing tips is, while you might not be working actively in a certain genre, its tips and techniques can certainly apply elsewhere.

So, for instance, while Jane Friedman's guest post on the hallmarks of a bad argument does use several examples from politics, she's sharing it so that nonfiction writers covering other topics can recognize and avoid these pitfalls.

And while news reporting's goals and structures aren't the same as those of fiction, one can certainly inspire the other — author and former journalist Ginger Pinholster shares her three tips for turning journalism into fiction at Writer's Digest.
